The Province of Alberta


The province of Alberta is 661,000 square kilometres and has a population of about 3 1/2 million people. The major cities in Alberta are Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta, and the city of Calgary, home of the Calgary Stampede. Smaller cities are Lethbridge and Red Deer.

edmonton skylineAlberta is best known for it's oil and gas industry. Other industries are the perto chemical industry, agriculture and Tourism. Upcoming industries are technology, software development and electronics.

The unemployment rate is quite low, 3.4% (2006)

Alberta has the lowest personal taxes as well as the lowest business taxes in all of Canada.

Alberta is a vibrant, young economy with a young work force.

Alberta is home to 5 UN World Heritage Sites. Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, Dinosaur Provincial Park , Waterton Glacier Peace Park and the Wood Buffalo National Park.

It has the largest theatre festival in North America, The Fringe Festival in Edmonton.

Recreational activities are: skiing, golfing, hiking, fishing, camping, boating and many other activities.
