The Province of Manitoba


A province with a population of  1.2 million people, Manitoba is one of Canada’s three Prairie Provinces.

winnipeg parkBut Manitoba is not just a prairie province, it has more than 100,000 lakes, 645 kilometres of coastline and thousands of kilometres of rivers.  Manitoba has over 150 parks. Total area of Manitoba is 647,797 square kilometres, Capital city is Winnipeg.

Manitoba's economy is tourism, energy, agriculture, oil, minerals, mining, forestry, and many more. Agriculture is vital, and is found mainly in the southern half of the province,

Culture is alive and well in the province, there are numerous museums in Manitoba.

Polar BearThe Town of Churchill Manitoba is the official polar bear capital of the world. In order to see the polar bears you travel on the Tundra Vehicles, and you should book your trip a year in advance. Tours are held from early October to half way Novenber.

The Northern Lights are at their best in January, February and March. You can see them from anywhere in Manitoba.

While visible at almost any time of the year, the Northern Lights hit their peak in January through March. These magnificent displays can be viewed from anywhere in or around town. Group tours include Natural Habitat, Frontier North and the Churchill Northern Studies Centre (Elderhostel and Learning Vacation). Winter clothing is available for rent at the Polar Inn.



The Canadian Shield covers almost three quarters of the province.
Every srpring, tens of thousands of red sided garter snakes come out of their limestone sinkholes near the town of Inwood, the Garter Snake Capital of the World. And thousands of Beluga Whales arrive at the mouth of the Churchill River and in the Hudson Bay each summer.
